Amalfi cathedral and the Cloister of Paradise
Atrani, Italy’s smallest town, on foot from Amalfi
The gardens of Villa Rufolo and the Terrace of Infinity in Ravello
Minori, its beach and Roman villa

Full description

This is the coast tour for those who have already seen Positano, or want to avoid it in summer: four towns close to each other, with more time on foot and less in the car.

Amalfi and Atrani

In Amalfi, the cathedral steps, the Cloister of Paradise and the square; then, a ten-minute walk away, Atrani: Italy’s smallest town by area, a little square on the sea and houses stacked one above the other, without Amalfi’s crowds.

Ravello

Six kilometres of hairpins above the coast, 350 metres above the sea. The gardens of Villa Rufolo, where Wagner found his garden of Klingsor, and the Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone give the view everyone associates with the Amalfi Coast.

Minori

Down to Minori, with its wide beach, the remains of a Roman seaside villa in the middle of town and a tradition of handmade pasta and pastry: the last stop, for something sweet before heading back.

How much walking

4 km · Moderate physical effort — About 4 km, almost all on foot in the towns: Amalfi and Minori are level, Atrani is all stairways and in Ravello you climb towards the villas. Nothing strenuous, but many steps.

When to go

From April to June and in September and October. In July and August the Amalfi coast road has its slowest traffic of the year and the towns are packed: start early. Winter is the quietest time, with some restaurants and shops closed.

The same itinerary by public transport

From Amalfi the SITA Sud buses climb to Ravello in about twenty minutes and reach Minori in ten, for a few euros; Atrani is a ten-minute walk. From Naples, though, you reach Amalfi by train to Salerno and then by ferry (April to October) or bus: a good two hours each way.

When it genuinely wins

If you are staying in Amalfi, public transport is enough and costs much less: we say so plainly, provided you accept summer queues at the stops and buses that pass by full. The tour, which does not start from Amalfi, is for those coming from Naples, Sorrento or Positano: by public transport half the day goes on travel, and the tour gives it back to the towns.

How much walking does this tour involve?

Around 4 km over the day. About 4 km, almost all on foot in the towns: Amalfi and Minori are level, Atrani is all stairways and in Ravello you climb towards the villas. Nothing strenuous, but many steps. Moderate physical effort.

How long is spent at each stop?

Amalfi 1 h 30, Atrani 30 min, Ravello 1 h 30 and Minori 45 min. The rest of the day is driving, and the timings flex with traffic and with what you prefer: the driver works to the group, not to a fixed schedule.

When is the best time for this tour?

From April to June and in September and October. In July and August the Amalfi coast road has its slowest traffic of the year and the towns are packed: start early. Winter is the quietest time, with some restaurants and shops closed.

Can this itinerary be done by public transport?

From Amalfi the SITA Sud buses climb to Ravello in about twenty minutes and reach Minori in ten, for a few euros; Atrani is a ten-minute walk. From Naples, though, you reach Amalfi by train to Salerno and then by ferry (April to October) or bus: a good two hours each way. Why Atrani and Minori, and not Positano?

Because it is the tour for those who have already seen Positano, or want to avoid it in summer. Atrani is Italy’s smallest town by area, a ten-minute walk from Amalfi, with its square on the sea; Minori has a wide beach, the Roman villa on the seafront and a tradition of handmade pasta and pastry. Positano is in the other coast tours.

Where does the tour start?

From the address you give us, in Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento, Positano, Salerno or Caserta. Not from the Amalfi and Ravello area: that is where the stops are, and a tour never starts from the area of one of its stops. Nor does it end there: the drop-off is in another area too.

Can I customize the itinerary?

Yes. All our tours can be customized according to your interests, needs and available time. Contact us before booking to create a tailor-made experience.

Are the tours suitable for guests with reduced mobility?

Many of our itineraries can be adapted to the needs of guests with reduced mobility. However, some attractions or historic centres may have accessibility limitations. Please contact us in advance for assistance choosing the most suitable tour.

Can I extend the tour during the day?

In most cases yes, subject to driver and vehicle availability. Any extra hours will be subject to an additional fee.

Are tips mandatory?

No, tips are not mandatory and are not included in the price. If you are satisfied with the service, a tip is always appreciated but entirely optional.
