Your driver waits at the closest accessible point to your hotel, on the main road or one of its side streets. Allow a few extra minutes: in Positano almost every property involves a short flight of steps.
The drive from Positano to Herculaneum covers about 50 km and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. The final stretch runs along the coast road carved into the cliff, a sequence of bends and tunnels with the sea straight below — spectacular to look at, demanding to drive. Your driver knows every curve and every passing point, so you can watch the view instead of the road.
Between Positano and Herculaneum the car is yours for the whole leg: luggage stays on board, and if you want to stop for a photo where the view opens up, you just say so. There is no extra charge for a short stop along the way — it is the difference between a transfer and a shuttle.
We drop you in front of the Corso Resina entrance, metres from the excavation ticket office, or at your accommodation. On request we can wait during your visit and then continue on to Vesuvius or Pompeii.
Herculaneum holds the best-preserved Roman town in Italy: smaller than Pompeii but with timber, fabric and upper floors still intact, sealed under eighteen metres of volcanic mud. The road up to the Great Cone of Vesuvius also starts here.
