Where to eat in Procida: the areas and how to choose

From the harbour tables of the Corricella to the seafront at Chiaiolella: where to eat fish with a view, and how to pick well.

Back to the Procida guide

Where you eat on Procida shapes the experience as much as what you order. Each of the island’s three main zones has its own atmosphere and view. Here’s how they compare and how to avoid the few tourist traps.

At the Corricella

The most romantic option: trattorias on the Corricella harbour, tables set among the boats and pastel houses, serving the day’s catch. It’s the island’s signature meal, ideal at lunch or sunset. Expect slightly higher prices for the setting, and book on summer weekends — the view tables go fast.

At Marina Grande

The port area of Marina Grande has plenty of honest fish restaurants and everyday spots, often frequented by locals. Handy on arrival or before catching the boat back, it tends to be a touch more down-to-earth (and sometimes cheaper) than the Corricella, without losing the seafood quality.

At Chiaiolella

Around the Chiaiolella harbour and beach you’ll find restaurants and bars with a more relaxed, seaside feel — perfect to combine with a beach day, and pleasant in the evening for an aperitif by the water. A good base if you’re staying on that side of the island.

Sweets and gelato

Don’t leave without a lingua di Procida from a bakery, or a lemon gelato eaten while walking the alleys. The island’s cafés and pasticcerie are the place for a citrus-scented sweet break — cheap, delicious and quintessentially Procidan.

How to choose

Look for places busy with locals, ask what’s fresh that day, and be wary of spots relying only on the view. A written menu with clear prices (fish is often priced by weight) avoids surprises. On such a small island word travels fast, so the genuinely good trattorias are easy to find with a quick ask around.

Frequently asked questions

Where to eat fish in Procida?

The trattorias of the Marina Corricella are the most scenic, with tables on the little harbour and the day’s catch; Marina Grande and Chiaiolella also have excellent fish spots. For an authentic meal look for the places frequented by locals, often simple but with the freshest fish.

Where to eat at the Corricella?

On the Corricella harbour there are several trattorias with tables overlooking the boats and coloured houses: it’s the island’s most romantic dining experience, ideal for lunch or at sunset. Book on summer weekends and expect slightly higher prices for the priceless view.

How much does it cost to eat in Procida?

Less than in Capri or the more fashionable islands: a fish meal in a trattoria has reasonable prices, especially in the places locals frequent. The trattorias with a Corricella view cost a bit more for the location. For a quick lunch there are sandwiches, salads and the lingua di Procida in the bakeries.

Do you need to book restaurants in Procida?

In high season and at weekends yes, especially for the tables with a view at the Corricella, much in demand at lunch and sunset. On low-season weekdays you usually find a table, but a phone call before heading down saves you nasty surprises, since the island is small and the venues aren’t endless.
